All About Countess Mara Designer Men’s Neckties

When people think of logo ties, well known designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior and Pierre Cardin come to mind. All three designers prominently displayed their “YLS”, “Dior” and “P” logos are the tips of their neckwear in the 1980’s, when they made it popular to do so. However, it was Countess Mara who popularized this practice as early as 1938!
The Countess Mara CM Logo Born as Lucille Mara de Vescovi in Italy, but later known under her business name Countess Mara, this woman was ahead of her time when she opened her necktie shop in New York in 1938. Bored with the patterns of neckwear at the time, she launched her own line. She produced very few ties and priced them high, with an interest in creating fashionable ties for the wealthy. She also printed and later stitched her trademark “CM” logo topped by a nine point coronet to give the ties an even more regal appearance.
Creating Novelty Neckties To Countess Mara the patterned ties of the day were forgettable, so she decided to incorporate novelty themes. Her flora and fauna included horses, fish, camels, owl, ferns, flowers, trees. Soon she turned to more unusual items such as playing cards, key rings, guns, astrological signs, magicians, even the Devil himself!
Today’s Modern Ties In later years both patterned and novelty themes graced Countess Mara ties. Ties produced in the 1990’s no longer sported the logo, and today’s ties bear the crown stitched at the tip of the thin end, where no one can see it. Many interesting patterns and designs abound, but none with novelty themes.
