Coordinating Skinny Ties With Your Outfit
By Jackie Burns
So you’ve seen skinny ties everywhere you turn for the last several years and have finally decided to include them into your ensemble. What is the best way to wear them? Well, as with all neckwear, they will serve either an active or a passive role. Only you can decide. If you are self conscious about slimmer necktie, perhaps making them blend in is a wise choice. This way they will coordinate with the rest of your clothing so well that no one will notice them over any other part of your outfit. Nothing loud. Nothing lighter or brighter than the lightest article of clothing. Opt for smaller foulard patterns over large ones. If you are a fashion hound and want others to know it, then one way to accomplish that is to make your skinny tie stand out against the rest of your ensemble. Bright will work. So will colors which are brighter and lighter than the rest of the outfit. Large repeating patterns are preferred over smaller ones. Pretty much the opposite of what was previously recommended. Now here are two additional recommendations: First, try novelty neckties, since the whole point behind this sort of neckwear is to share your interests with others. A tie will do just that. Second, thin vintage ties will dazzle your audience because they are unique, because their designs are unusual, and because their color combinations can also be a bit out of the ordinary. Many contain a single embellishment midway up the tie, which today’s neckties don’t. They might be skinny, but they make a big statement in contrast to today’s generic neckwear. So there you have it! Best of all, there is no right or wrong way to do things, just your way!
