What makes a tie a novelty tie? What types of novelty neckties can be worn, and when is it best to wear them? These are all good questions.
Novelty Defined It is best to think about novelty items. They are mainly decorative, sometimes funny adornments for the home. Novelty neckties are pretty much the same. Throw out the solids and patterns such as polka dots, paisleys, stripes, plaids and foulards, and you are left with fun ties which usually contain a theme. Novelty ties are often described as “conversational” or “picture” ties.
Types of Novelty Ties You name it, and you’ll find it on a tie. From holiday themes for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Saint Patrick’s Day, Father’s Day, Independence Day, to even Halloween and Thanksgiving! Your favorite breed of dog as well as every animal under the sun and underwater is represented. Ties for every occupation and hobby have covered many a tie. And don’t forget your favorite cartoon character or favorite sports team. There is nothing, and I mean nothing that hasn’t been represented on a tie at some point!
Best Time to Wear Them Novelty neckties make it easy to connect with people. By wearing one you are sharing your interests with others who might like the same things you do, so don’t be surprised that they are great ice breakers at social gatherings. These types of ties are often funny and sometimes naughty, so they are sure to elicit a reaction. They are best worn at casual events.
When Not To Wear Them At work. Period. Especially not a job interviews! However, if your workplace has instituted casual Fridays, it is fairly safe time to show off your lighter side with your neckwear. |
