Listen to the Experts When Seeking Advice about What to Wear for Job Interviews
By Jackie Burns
When it comes to timeless topics such as love, marriage, money, etc, a lot of the advice you hear on the airwaves, watch on the tube or read in magazines, books and online seems repetitive, and much of it is because it withstands the test of time. So goes with advice pertaining to what to wear at a job interview. If you access enough stuff, it all pretty much starts sounding the same. This means the advice on how to dress is not very complicated and most of the authors and advice panels by now are in agreement over what works and what doesn’t. You come across words such as “distracting”, “non distracting”, “professional”, “conservative”, as so on over and over again, so pick a trusted source and go with it. The research has been done for you so all you have to do is follow the suggestions at least as far as dress code is concerned, and devote your time to other aspects of job interview preparation. What is interesting is that the personnel which conduct the interviews are accustomed to seeing and expecting to see a certain dress code from their employees as well as prospective such as yourself, and anyone not following the rule of thumb basically ends up sticking out like a sore thumb. The operative word is “sore”! Of course, I am generally speaking here, and some industries call for more specific type of wear which you can research on your own prior to the big day.
