Men’s Modern Fashion Includes Narrow Neckties
By Jackie Burns
One of the fastest ways to size up men’s fashion in a flash is to browse the magazine section at a local bookstore such as Barnes and Noble. Every magazine, newspaper and periodical is within arm’s length, and fashion mags take up a sizable section of the long row of reading material. So what do magazines such as Details and GQ reflect about today’s man? Monochromatic Colors Hugo Boss advertisements feature monochromatic ensembles which are accessorized with skinny ties. Actually their as far back as the fall of 2004 this designer adverts combined slim cut suits, shirts and thin neckwear, sometimes all three pieces in black. That’s about as monochromatic as it gets! Passive Roles Designers leave it up to each person to decide if they want their narrow neckties to function as passive accompaniments of their ensemble or as the highlights and dazzling finishing touches. When you think about the classic skinny black tie, you think sophisticated and understated, something that blends in with the rest of the attire and doesn’t stand out on its own. Most dark color neckwear will accomplish the same desired effect. All a person has to do is choose a necktie the same color as the darkest color of their outfit. Ralph Lauren has been seen mixing various patterns lately, so it might be best for a tie to serve a passive role in this instance. Active Roles On the flip side, choosing a narrow tie the same color as the lightest color of one’s outfit will accomplish the reverse effect. The necktie will stand out and take on a much more commanding role.
