Six Ways on How to Keep Soda Pop Fizzy and Not Lose Its Fizz
By Jackie Burns
My guy loves flat soda. He leaves the soda bottle uncapped and goes to his favorite convenience store which keeps all of its fountain pop almost flat. Not me. I want to enjoy my soda as fizzy as the day I open the two liter bottle, which normally lasts me 2 to 3 days. As soon as I unscrew the top, I hear a quick whooshing noise, which is the first blast of carbonated water beginning to lose its fizz. Here are the best 6 ways I’ve found to keep my favorite soda fizzy: 1. As soon as I open the soda, and pour a glass full, I screw the cap back on as tightly as possible. 2. My soda bottle goes in the fridge in order to stay as cold as possible. Soda fizzes less in colder temperatures. 3. I handle the bottle gingerly because shaking it will cause the carbon dioxide inside to mix with the air, causing the pop to fizz more. 4. Also, I carefully angle the bottle and keep my glass at the same angle while pouring, which reduces the fizzing. Beer is poured in much the same way. 5. Pop can get really flat when half of the bottle is empty, so some people store their pop in smaller containers, which are filled to the top with just pop. And last but not least…..drum roll please…… 6. I squeeze the air out of my 2 liter bottles right after my first pour. The bottles are made of plastic so it is easy to keep squeezing it, which eventually makes the bottle look deformed, but it keeps my pop fizzy, and as an added bonus, gives me more room in my fridge!
